Superman is an enjoyable return to the hopeful spirit of the character. David Corenswet delivers a likable and believable Superman, and the film succeeds by emphasizing compassion and optimism rather than constant darkness. The action is entertaining, the supporting cast is solid, and James Gunn injects the movie with energy and humor. While the story occasionally feels crowded and not every subplot receives enough attention, it's a strong foundation for the new DC Universe and one of the better Superman films in recent years.
