The Empire Strikes Back is a very strong sequel and an easy 7.9/10 for me—darker, more ambitious, and more emotionally satisfying than most blockbuster follow-ups, with the Hoth battle, Yoda’s introduction, and the Luke/Vader storyline all giving it real weight. What keeps it just shy of masterpiece territory is that parts of the middle can drag a bit, and not every side plot hits with the same force as the main arc, but it’s still smart, bold, and hugely rewatchable—a sequel that deepened Star Wars instead of just repeating it.
