The Departed is one of the most entertaining crime thrillers of its era, driven by outstanding performances and relentless tension. Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon are excellent as two men trapped in impossible situations, while Jack Nicholson brings unpredictability to every scene he's in. The story moves at a brisk pace and consistently finds ways to raise the stakes. While it doesn't quite reach the emotional depth of some of Scorsese's greatest films, it's a smart, intense, and highly rewatchable crime drama that earns its reputation.
